5CP Warnings

Large power users in the PJM Service territory may be subject to a transmission charge which is calculated based on the 5 highest individual system peaks during the summer months of June, July, August and September.  The amount you are charged in the following calendar year for transmission costs will partially depend on the peak demand loads you set at the same time at the 5 highest distribution system peaks during this time period.

Medium to large electricity users who wish to reduce their applicable transmission charges by taking action to reduce load when there is a danger that a new 5CP peak will be set can do so by subscribing to the our LCA Load Notification Service.  This online service provides the users with the ability to configure their own notififcation set points and notification recipients in order to avoid setting excessive peaks at the same time as 5CP peaks.

Depending on the size of your electrical load, savings can be from tens of thousands of dollars into the millions.  Best of all you can use the service for the month of June 2009, before deciding to commit to the service for the remainder of the summer season.

The 5CP notification system can also be combined with the automatic demand control to provide Companies with a way of automatically reducing peak demand in order to ensure that the facility demand at the time of the electrical distribution system peaks are as low as possible, thereby minimizing financial impact.
